Classic Payroll Module
04/25/08 at 09:35:10

We are currently using an outside payroll and tax services, but want to bring this back in house.  We have DBA Classic but have never used the payroll module.

I'm interested in guideance from anyone using the classic payroll module.  How well does in work, what issue if any do have?  I have about 40 employees that get paid weekly and some bi-weekly.

Thanks

We use it and like being able to do it in house. It does have some limitations and there doesn't seem to be any work to make it better. IS Tech does provide tax table updates but I don't think they intend on providing upgrades unless there was a major change in tax code or something.

One limitation is doing complex employer contributions on a user deduction. It only allows a straight percentage for the employer match on a 401k deduction. Today a safe harbor match like 100% of the first 3 percent of salary and 50% of the next 2 percent of salary, is popular. We do 100% of the first 3 percent through the program and then the TPA calculates the remainder and we deposit at a later date.

We use crystal reports for many reports so that isn't an issue. The 941 report and subject to report will give you most of what you need at tax time. If you have specific questions I will try to help.

Thanks Steve for your reply and the information.

Do you have direct deposits and if so, how do you handle those.

It is capable of using direct deposits.

We've only ever used it, and for us, it is completely fine!
