Does NZEMAIL even keep track of what it sends? We use BCC self to keep a record.

I really highly doubt that it keeps track. I haven't heard of too many email libraries that do. That's usually what your sent mail folder is for... Except for the fact that NZ Mail doesn't copy to your sent mail folder so you do have to BCC to yourself if you want to keep track. Unfortunately I don't see much of an easy way to fix this.

Fix NZEMAIL? Why not just have Evo call the default email client, insert the headers and body, add the attachment and let my email client deal with sending?

Well, I've had the same thought but I didn't mention it because usually that sort of operation is frowned upon. HTML has the mailto: tag but it's frowned upon. Not everyone has a main client setup and maybe you don't want to setup an email client on every workstation but you'd like them to be able to email quotes. It's most efficient if the software does it all internally.
 
I guess it's a debate whether it's a good idea to set everyone up with a mail client.

I've been tasked to supply a solution. Customer Service likes the one-click emailing, but the powers are having heartburn that it leaves no record in the CRM. I did point out that there was no record in the CRM before we started using NZMail to send order acknowledgments... because we didn't send any!  Grrr.
 
So, I'll be solving that. Plus, they now want an auto email to go out when an order ships. Yay!
