Can't make it print bold
06/04/08 at 08:39:29

DBA Classic v2004.1, Istech 05/08/06 - XP, peer to peer

I just moved into this XP box and dba will not print bold to my Hplj-4M+.  I have done UT-F, assign fonts, and it reads Carrier New, Regular size 11, compressed size 7, bold = Y, all margins zero.

Still won't print bold.  What am I missing?

Thanks,
Wayne

I tried the "bold" setting and it has no effect. If you need to print certain text on certain forms in bold, you may have to modify the respective rtm and choose the appropriate font and bold option.
Make sure you only save the rtm from the main tab or you may loose all info

But we are using the text universal form, (#5 on PO setup) not the graphical forms.  Always before, UT-F would cause it to print bold, and without it, the print is very faint.

WHY use the text if you are printing to an HP LJ printer?????  Switch to the Graphical, they are much better looking.  The only reason to use text would be for dot matrix multi-part forms.

We use the text because we print to a universal form containing our logo, contact, and address info, that works for invoices, shippers, purchase orders and as a letterhead as well.

We tried to put our logo into a graphical form, but it prints as a fuzzy mess, and after it is faxed the contact info is not legible.  The logo contains text in the DOM bold font, that we were unable to replicate in the graphical form, for some reason.  I do wish that would work.

Anyway, the UT-F works on all our machines except this one, and I need a solution of some kind.

Thanks,
Wayne

You might want to also look at the printer settings.  Try printing to the printer from a different application and make sure that the PC and the printer can print BOLD text outside of DBA Classic

Although I already knew I could print bold in other applications, I never use Courier New font.  So, I just opened Wordperfect document and successfully printed Courier New in both regular and bold.  Thanks for the suggestion.

Did you try a different printer driver?  HP's usually have a PS and a few flavors of PCL drivers, and the HP4M and HP4M+ drivers--you need to check what you are using.  It may be only one flavor of driver is even available anymore (PS).

Are there other XP users who can print bold in DBA? If so, you want to compare the driver you are using to what they are using.

You know, those are at least 10 years old!  I still have mine, originally purchased to use with my old Ma Plus.  Still going, but I doubt there are any recent printer drivers for XP--they probably stopped development way back in 2001 maybe.
