Our sister company just upgraded their server to a Win Server 2008 for a Classic Installation.  They like to live dangerously - They are running PSQL 2000i - so far, no problems.  I guess I shouldn't tell them to try EVO just yet.

That's funny. PSQL2000i is not even supported on 2003, never mind 2008. We hope to upgrade to 10 within the next couple of quarters, and we will upgrade the server to 2003 at the same time. Is this a good plan? Sounds like there are pitfalls in several areas. Is Evo/PSQL10/Win2003 a happy combo? Maybe we'll just stay with 2000  Smiley

Actually, you are right.
Classic runs, but not Evo. Also the lates EVO update will crash.

I'm not sure, but I think some people here have already combined PSQL10 with Win2003 without major issues.  I was thinking of pushing for our server upgrade in the next couple of months (which would probably be Win2008) but now I might want to hold back until the question of EVO/Win2008 is resolved.

Kelloggs -

Did you try the Right Click and Run As Administrator trick?  You have to do that with Vista to get Evo to run the first time; I suspect WIN 2008 server has many of the same peculiarities relating to the registry and security and such.

Yes,
I tried all the settings on the "Compatibility" Tab

What is puzzling is that it runs on Vista as you said.

I ran it on 2008 standard RC3 and it worked with Pervasive 10 and the current build of Evo at the time.  There were some issues with Pervasive and rights management that I had to work around but I don't remember what they were.  I'm reinstalling the release of 2008 std and will test.

Questions:

1: What flavor are you running?  std, Small Business or Enterprize?
2: are you trying to run EVO on the server directly or from a work station?
3: where is the default directory?  C:\DBAMFG or a mapped drive?
4: What else did you install?  Active Directory, Firewall, IIS, shadowing...?
5: have you changed any of the IE settings?  Maped drives must be in a trusted zone or 2008 will not allow running of apps.

Let me know,

Tim

Thanks for your help

I'm still downloading the release version.  As soon as I get it installed I'll test and let you know.  You are probably getting the IE dialog box asking you if you want to run EVOERP.exe every time you run it.  you fix this in IE, tools, internet options, security and adding the sahre for F: as a trusted site.  something like \\my-server\apps.  otherwise 2008 (and Vista) think you are running the application from the internet and can block it from running or from the different modules from running.

You also need to make sure the pervasive service is allowed through the firewall.  If if you are on the same server, pervasive runs through IP address 127.0.0.1 and the firewall rules are enforced.

I'll let you know ASAP (Probably tomorrow morning).

OK your right!  Microsoft changed something.  I'm getting the same error.

The most I can find right now is that Evo is casuing a crash in the Memory manager and is not the only application having the problem.  there are a bunch of apps having the same problem (enter appcrash in windows 2008) and or course Microsoft is being tight lipped about the problem.

Everything works fine from a Windows XP or Windows Vista workstation.  the problem is EVOERP.EXE running on the server.

Will be back when I have more info.

Got it!

Server 2008 has a new DEP protocol (Data Execution Prevention)  Not sure if it's the fact that EVOERP.EXE is actaully tp7runtime.exe or the fact that it is ran twice at startup.  ether way this is what's causing the problem.

To fix do the following in control panel,  go into system.  on the left click "Advanced System Settings"

Under the Advanced tab,  Choose settings under performance.  in the new window,  go to the "Data Execution Prevention" tab.  click add and browse and choose Evoerp.exe.  (need to add the one in DBAMFG first!)

Click OK to return to system properties.  then open explorer and launch EVOERP.EXE to start the client install.  After the clint is installed,  do the same thing for EVOERP.EXE in the C:\ISTS directory.

If you are running terminal services,  you need to do this for each user's copy of EVOERP.EXE.

DEP not only looks at the file to ignore but also the path to that file.

Hope it helps,

Tim

P.S.  there are some major patches for Windows 2008 you want to get them installed ASAP.

It turns out this step to add evoerp.exe to the list of allowed programs under the DEP protocol in Windows 2008 Server is apparently critical for installing updates.
I had big problems with the install of the payroll update because when I got to the convert existing dictionary and the program tried to open, it would open and then shut down immediately.
When I added evoerp.exe to the DEP list, and ran the install again, the convert existing dictionary program could be run, but by that time Lynn had done her magic to get the necessary files to me and I didn't need to run this.  For future updates I think this is very important.
