Bug tracker
09/28/08 at 12:48:27

A bug tracker is now active for EvoERP. An account will be required in order to directly post bugs to the database. Most people should continue to post their problem reports to this forum. A select few people will transfer problems to the bug tracker. The bug tracker allows for anonymous login so anyone can view the status of bugs in the database.

If anyone would like a bug tracker account then they should talk with Lynn about it. The bug tracker will email registered users if the status of a bug that they want to track has changed. So, anyone who'd like email status updates will have to have an account.

The bug tracker is found at:

The bugtracker is not strictly for Evo-ERP; it is also for DBA Classic.  Bugs in both environments will be tracked and fixed.

Eyepoppingly colorful.  Cool

Is someone going back through old problem reports to look for open bugs, or are we just starting from now and looking forward?

Yeah...sorry... I have it in my head that EvoERP is it because we don't use classic at all... Makes it hard for me to remember that classic is still around.

Well... I went back a month or so and looked for things which seemed to still be outstanding. Ideally it would be nice to find all open bugs and post them. But, of course, the reason I wanted a bug tracker is that it's really hard to read a forum and find the still open bugs.

Um, I'll take that as a "yes"  Smiley

Now if we can just get people to post their problems in the problem forums, I think we'll have a bit of progress.  lips sealed

Could ISTECH define what we should consider a "BUG"?.

Also, it will be a good idea to cleary define when should be use the forum and when the bug tracker.

I'm great at giving non committal answers. Wink

Yes, I think that all outstanding bugs should be reported. It's not going to be all that easy though...

I would define a bug as a program action which is not the expected result. Of course, it's still a bug even if you expected it to eat your report... So maybe I should say a bug is an unexpected or undesirable program outcome. The problem here is that user error and data issues can cause bug like symptoms.

Personally, I think that most people should continue to post bugs to the forum as it increases visibility and helps to weed out issues which aren't really bugs.

I totally agree.

Posting the alleged "bug" first on the forum will provide the other forum members an opportunity to soundly thrash the poster before we collectively declare it a bug!   Wink

Seriously though, this will help to "pre-filter" non bugs out of the bug tracker.

Yes, that was the original idea. Let the forum weed out or confirm, then put the filtered product on the bugaboo list.

I want to report a bug.  Angry

Well, more of a poor setting on the wiki. It is still allowing jerks who are not logged in to spam the pages. That and outright banning the IP of that OrracAlchi character who spams it three times each week.  Sad

Yeah.... I suppose that that should be changed. By default a wiki is something that anyone can change but that does get out of hand sometimes. It might be best to require authentication.

Yeah... about that.... um... well... you see.... I messed up the wiki database a little bit when I first set it all up.... and... ah... you can't ban users or IP addresses like you should be able to... So, I'm going to have to go in there and fix it but it's going to take a little bit.

I fixed the glitch with the database that prevented banning. Consequently our good friend OrracAlchi is going to need to find a new IP address and user name to use.
