Labeling Machine Support
01/27/09 at 15:31:11

  Hey Fellow Users,

Please bear with me as I am a new employee and new to the Evo-ERP culture. I work for a small electronics manufacturing company and we are continually growing and refining our processes.

I'm sure this problem has been addressed at least once by most experienced DBA users, so here it goes....

What is the best way to go about integrating Evo-ERP/DBA with a label printing machine. Currently, in receiving, our employees are bogged down both entering the received inventory into the DBA database, then separately reentering much of the same information into a sicky-label friendly format.  Our goal is to be able to to go the items menu after logging new inventory, and have a label maker create one, bar-coded label.

Does anybody have any advice as to what types of label makers integrate well with this software?

Any experiences that any users would be willing to share?

Thanks,

Shaun Smith,

Shaun,

Like you, we are a small electronics manufacturer.  While I do not print receiving labels, I do print labels for each raw inventory item that is part of a specific work order's pick ticket.  We use an old Brady MVP printer (one that is no longer used in production).  It was a little tricky to set up but it now works like a charm.  If you want details on who/how, drop me a line and I will provide you more details.

Good luck!

We have a dedicated computer that runs Crystal Reports to generate labels on Zebra printers. Not very helpful in your current situation I guess, but an option.  lips sealed

The latest update (12/21) has an option when receiving PO's to automatically print label(s) for the items received.  You can modify the label RTM to include bar code and whatever other information you want and it will print to any Windows printer.

Thanks everyone for the great feedback - Now I've gone from the realm of 'is this possible' to 'how do I get this done.'

Lynn, So the update automatically prints labels? Even if our software does not have the most current update, will it at least support a label printer?

IN-G has been able to print inventory bar code labels to any Windows printer for years.  With Evo-ERP as opposed to just DBA Classic, you have a lot more flexibility in the editing of the labels but you can print them in Classic and the PO-C call to the label printing is available for both Classic and Evo-ERP.

Where is the option for PO-C to call label printing?

it is an SD-Q setting added in the 12/21 update.  In Classic, SD-Q, Mfg II, "Print Item Labels after PO-C (Y/N/A)?"  Y means the print program will load, N means it will not and A means it will ask if you want to print.

In Evo SD-Q Master Defaults, it is on the PO Defaults on the Setup Tab.

Thanks!! WOW there is a lot of good information here. So, here is what I can tell in a nutshell and please bounce me if I have it wrong. I hope by phrasing it simply like this, it will help somebody else in the future who is learning the software as I am...

 1. Evo Erp will in fact allow users to print PO and other labels through the items menu. The items
on such labels can be customized and edited by the user to reflect the needs of our firm. So, for
example, if we want Our own item number instead of the manufacturers, we can choose either
     one and it's still cool.

 2. Evo Erp will interface with any Windows label printer.

 3. Under the new patch, 12/21, (we currently have the IS Support Update 3/27/08) it has a neat
little option that will either automatically print sticky item labels when the lady in receiving enters
parts the UPS man gives us, or it will pop up a little box asking if it wants us to do so. Even
without the 12/21 update, it will still print labels just fine, just not automatically. Hence, in our case
especially where we may need to print lots and lots of labels for each little baggie of circuit board
parts, it may even be easier to just NOT use the automatic printing option and just hit the print
option in the item menu a few times.

Are there any printers that users specifically recommend?

Please take a look at my first 3 points - If I'm on the right page, then I can run with it from here. If not, please help me understand.

Thanks a bunch everybody - these forums are a lot of help!!!!
