Trial Balance vs. Inventory Value
03/04/10 at 15:57:14

What would cause inventory G/L balances (Gl-E) for raw materials, finished goods & WIP to be substantially different than inventory value (IN-F)?

IN-F does not include WIP; that is supported by JC-M.  As for IN-F and the Raw Materials and FG, the biggest culprit I have seen is incorrect use and classification of Non Inventory (Type N) parts.  Type N parts never have on-hand quantity and are never reflected in IN-F but their transactions do hit the GL.

IN-F allows you to print by GL account.  Is the something we should refrain from doing?

not refrain, but use as a comparison of values to see if you get the same results or not. sometimes it's a good way to find out, if you have type N parts expensing to the Inventory defaults instead of an expense account.

I was having issues with this for awhile as well until I realized that the date you print inventory value on actually matters.  Just because you put in 2/28/10 as the date ended that you want it take the actual values from the date you printed it.  Say I wanted to print it today.  It will be off.  I don't know why but when I make a point to print it on the actual day I want it ended on, its almost right on. Assuming you have the IS Tech updates installed, there is an option in IN-F for printing as of a prior date.  It takes the current value as a starting piont and reverses out transaction back to arrive at the as-of date value.

I just had this issue yesterday.  One of our item numbers did not have an assigned location which in turn would not calculate the book value because the book value was negative even though there was 180 parts in inventory.  Just a place to lookl.
