Substitute Parts, Implementation, and Database ?
03/11/10 at 10:16:15

  Hello all,

One thing I've learned is that in business process modeling, there is no such thing as a unique problem or even a unique solution. If one person has a question, then someone else has been there. Hopefully someone else here on this board has been in the same boat I am.

Right now, I'm implementing a business process model with EVO ERP to cut back on a lot of the redundant steps we perform. We need help with inventory control, and we arn't using EVO ERP to the full potential. We've had consultant come in and offer to write us a program just for us, but they cost Millions and I KNOW EVO will do everything.

We have a problem in that we are not implementing substitute parts correctly. Because we manufacture aerospace parts, we usually have specific parts we can use - and many times engneering has got the OK to use approved substitues. Many times we choose which part we use based on price, availability, or other orders that may be requiring those parts as well.  In EVO, all our part numbers are simply the manufacturers part number. Thats how we started it back years ago.

We have a problem in that when we recieve an order, we need to know how many of item 1 we have, substitute 1, substitute 2, substitute 3, et cetera. Preferably printed on the same pick list.

We have a camp at work that is insisting on a bigger overhaul - redoing things so we issue our OWN part numbers instead of just using Mfg part numbers, which would help eliminate some many-to-many type relationships we have, but there's GOT to be a simple way.

Look, this is a tough ? - but could somebody perhaps poit me in the right direction for this? Any experiences?

problem with keeping and in-efficient system in place...... it remains in-efficient. i would agree with your camp, make the Item numbers in EVO belong to your company, hence, the customer, manufacturer, vendor cross-references are related to your part number.

there are tools to change your Item codes within EVO either one at a time, or as a batch. use  SM-J-L.

have a good plan of attack going forward.
