Long part numbers (new in 1/25/12 update)
04/11/12 at 07:51:44

The What's New page says "currently only available in some IN, PO and BM screens". I'm not sure what that means. Does that mean you can't enter SOs or WOs for them?

Maybe somewhat related, any plans in the works for longer Descriptions, or is that being addressed through the Notes system, and if so, how is that working?

TIA,

Have you learned anything about this? We would like to start using the longer numbers but not sure if it is fully implemented in the programs you mentioned.

We are using Long Part Numbers without any real issues. The only problems I'm aware of at this (current SP) time are:

  • The "Copy Item" button in IN-B does not populate the LPN field with the new LPN. This affects any part, not just ones with more than 15 characters. It can be fixed in Maintain Database. The T7 version of "Copy Item Number" in IN-L-N does now (current SP) work properly.
  • "Change Item Numbers" in SM-J-L does not allow you to enter a PN longer than 15 characters.
  • Some of the forms do not seem to have the LPN field available. Can't find my list right now. If you have an item with a LPN you will get the Regular Item ID, which is assigned to every part with a LPN. When you create a PN longer than 15 characters, the very first time it makes an Item ID of LP0000000000001, and increments it every time by one. So on the forms that don't support the LPN you will still have a PN, but it will be the abbreviated one if it's more than 15 characters.

There may well be other issues but we haven't come across them, or I just don't remember...

BTW, if the Evo Note system is fixed so that it works the way it's supposed to, it will work very fine indeed as an extended description. However there are several bugs that need to be worked out of it.
