CHANGE WORK CENTERS & DEPARTMENTS
10/25/12 at 09:47:32
We want to re-vamp the work centers and departments to where they make sense. (this was first setup by others). If we make these changes will the system automatically change everywhere? I'm assuming on anything already printed, (work orders) that those would not update, correct?

Anyone have feedback. Unable to find details in the ISHELP document on changing work centers and departments and if it causes changes to the GL.

Work Centers or Departments don't have GL information attach to them.
Classes do. SM-C.
General Ledger accounts have Departments. If you change a department you will have to change each GL Account that has that Dept.

So just by changing a department name, the system will not automatically change everywhere associated, right?
Is there a GL report that will give us accounts and departments so we can know what and where to change department name?

I am trying to remember, we did it many, many years ago
I think what we did is to duplicate our GL accounts with a SQL script then
then use AM-H utility. It will transfer everything from account A to account B.
Ask Lynn, she will know.

Whoa there Tex!!
Don't get Routing Departments mixed up with Accounting Departments.
If you just want to change titles on Work Centers and Departments within Work Centers, you do that
through RO-C and RO-H.

Routing Departments CAN be associated with GL Departments. They are different but there is a default setting (Evo Work Order Defaults, Processing II or DBA SD-Q) for "Link Work Center Dept to GL Dept". If this is set to Y then the Absorbed Labor and Overhead postings made in WO-F Enter Labor or using Data Collection will post to the default GL Account and the Department based on the Work Center Department. If it is set to N or Blank, then there is no correlation between the two.
