Maintaining Multiple Std Costs for a single P/N
11/28/12 at 14:42:28

We often have consigned material that we would like to maintain in one inventory location at $0 std cost and at the same time have purchased material for the identical part number that we would like to maintain in a different inventory location with a positive std cost.

Any suggestions, how we might do this?

What type of costing do you use?

Because, I think, if you use average or standard no matter where you place it (Location) DBA will calculate the cost for you.

maybe Lynn, could come up with a cleaver way to do that.

We are using the average cost option for inventory valuation.   We have used DBA/DVO for 10 years + and have become pretty adept and figuring out clever ways to get functional options that aren't readily available in the software.

We have not, however, ever come up with a good way to manage a single part number for which we would like to maintain different average values  and different standard values based upon the inventory location.

So in effect, the question is,  can we maintain different same part number avg and std values for different inventory locations.

Thanks for your help.

In a word, no.  We have looked into the possibility of maintaining a different cost for the same item in different locations but every time we start developing the programming for it, we encounter a roadblock that prevents it.
