1" Labels?
06/06/13 at 15:28:25

Trying to do a SIMPLE label printout. I want to be able to print 1" labels (using TE, or Tyton labels) on demand. I have several thermal transfer printers at my disposal, but the report editor program really only seems to appreciate Avery labels, and I've had little luck getting these printers to spit out anything worth a darn from within Evo.

Anyone have an experience writing report forms for printing labels from within evo? Was considering just using Excel. Easier to do layout and I can just pull data from Evo with ms query, but don't want to give up on Evo just yet.

I never got DBA/EVO to work on labels.  I use Excel.  Just one of the quirks in this system. Wink

That's cool... Still doesn't help me, maybe you have some suggestions, maybe a template I can borrow from to get me off the ground? In a perfect world I need something that'll take input from something like, say a barcode scanner (Keyboard), and if the item scanned is found it'll spit out a label.

REALLY simple. No, I don't have a budget for this, just a few hours or so before the boss man goes ballistic.

What exactly are you looking for? Do you want to print out a label with the inventory item #, location, etc?

Yep, at this point, I just want to be able to easily enter a inventory item and have it spit out a label for that part. I don't have a problem cusomizing the fields and output at a later time. the big issue is getting the label output to line up with a 3"x1" roll of thermal transfer labels.

I tried to setup a custom report using Evo's report editor and then using the Handheld print inventory label program, but the program required too much clicking and when the label finally printed I could never get the label to line up or to NOT spit out 20 blank labels.

One of the printers I'm trying to get to work and the labels used, they are basically 3" x 1" thermal transfer labels, but I have all sorts of sizes available. Got some Zebra printers as well I can use, this one just happens to be not used at the moment.

(notice the upside down Evo attempt at the bottom of the label. can't even figure out how to get the orientation correct)

Not sure about the big printers, but what I have learned about report editor and labels is that sometimes it's picky.

We print to Zebra 2844 here and print to 3 x 1 labels and 4 x 6 on the other printer.

When we print I think that most of the user will print from the preview screen.  It tends to help out with the orientation.

I can send you my modified rtm if you want (using them currently for inventory tags and shipping labels)

That'd be great, whenever I go to print Evo sets the printer to print on 4" x 10" labels and if I set it to 3x1 with the correct orientation before printing it tries to print 10000 labels. Serious bugs with printing in this app, always has been. Not sure why Evo can't just use the windows print settings.

Feel free to send whatever to andy@nortra-cables.com

thanks again.

I just borrowed a zebra TLP 3842 from the back, similar drivers to the CAB/a4+ printers, gonna see what I can do.

never had a problem like that before.   If the preview is correct I think it works better from the preview.

I will send a file your way

Got your label template, and now I finally understand what those containers are for. I just don't know how to make them in that report editor. I wish there was some documentation for making template changes, program is confusing as hell.

The labels work OK with the zebra printer, but with OTHER printers, evo tries to set the print settings to something that freaks the printer out, and from what I can tell there's no way to just send a label to a printer with whatever settings I choose. It just doesn't work. Don't know if that has something to do with the TAS Primere system or something else.

At any rate, wanted to say thanks for your help, and I'll have to see if I can find another solution outside of Evo.

1.Enter part number
2.Print Label
3.?????
4.Profit

how hard can it be?

Got the label working. Using the DC Handheld frontend, in this system when I print from the HH-B (Print Labels) app, it just prints without bringing up the print dialog. SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much better.

Now I need one other thing, the RoHS field is stored at BKICMSTR.BKIC_PROD_DPTNT in the 4th character position, how do I print that field, or is there a way I can print a RoHS graphic IF that field is set to yes?

A field, ROHS, has been added (today) to the program so the ROHS setting can be printed on the label.  The program will be available in the upcoming update.
