DBA Classic Print Linked Image with Traveler
01/09/14 at 13:46:04

I’ve been combing the forums for a definitive answer to my problem and cannot seem to find one. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Goal: Print PDF Drawing when Traveler is printed
Currently: Traveler Prints w/o Linked Image but linked image is viewable via IN-A Camera Icon

What I’ve done so far:
IN-B – Image Link
               Order: 1
               Link: Y:\IMGTest\test.pdf
Use the Global Link Path? Y
Associate this link to Routing seq: 0
Use IE or other : O Specify Other : ADOBE
               Y:\Adobe\Reader\AcroRd32.exe
               Printing:
Image Thumbnail or Link? L For all
For Parent, Component or Both? B for all
IN-A – Able to view linked image through acrobat reader using the camera icon
SD-Q - Enable Evo Links = N
Form =BKWOC1.RTM

When I go to print the WO I select Y in the option for printing linked documents.
Attempted printing to List and Printer with no success on either.

I’m sure that I’m close and I’ve used the forums to help me get this far but I cannot find a conclusive solution to this. I would greatly appreciate any help that anyone can provide.

Update: I needed to add the path to Adobe Reader to the Windows Environment Path.

On Windows 7 : Computer -> System Properties -> Advanced System Settings -> Environment Variables -> PATH under System Variables and add Path to Reader

However this has not yet fixed this issue. When I go to print from WO-C I can see the NZ-BOM window opening briefly but the linked image still does not print.

Link: Y:\IMGTest\test.pdf

if you use default path you don't need the path in the link.

also B is for thumbnails

For Parent, Component or Both? use P for things like PDF's

if you have it set to B it will print the PDF when you print out any bom with that item on it.
normally you don't want that.

Thanks for the Tip in regards to setting it to P from B.

Sorry if this is a trivial question but what is the default path?

Also regardless of what setting I have it set to either P or B the linked image is still not printing.

Thanks again!

Global path

Use the Global Link Path? Y    to the right of this is the global path. you need to fill that in 1 time.

that's the default path so you would put the path where you keep all your pdf's or whatever you are linking to.

I keep my word files in the default path and my thumbs in another directory so I use global for word docs and k:\thumbs\filename.png  for my thumbs so they have a  use global path set to N

I kept .doc and .png in separate directories so that there would be less files in each location I didn't want to overload one location with 40,000+ files.  maybe that's ok but I didn't want to find out the hard way.

are you in in-B

it says routing seq ?
I don't have that in IN-B
are you linking to a routing ?

are you using evo links or classic

Using Classic in In-B. It does have a spot for routing Seq I have just been leaving that un altered. I have set the Global link Path to Y. Through Tech Support Help we determined I did have a Windows Environment Pathing issue which has been solved. Maybe I'll attempt putting a seq number in just to see. I'm not trying to link to a specific routing but at this point I'll try just about anything.

this is how I have it setup for a word doc

there have been some changes so you may not need to use O as it now uses the windows file associations to print

Also I don't remember where you set the global link path its not shown here in classic. I use EVO mostly.
You might consider an EVO seat to see the difference. its so much better than classic.

I was one of the 1st people to use links so mine use the O direct program call to Word.

you might try a different PDF viewer / printer   there are plenty of free ones out there

I use PDF creator when test printing a batch of WO because it has silent mode where it wont ask for a file name for each word doc.

I use cute FTP when I just need a quick print to a file because it will ask

and I use adobe as my viewer because I find I can copy text from it better.  I don't use a lot of PDF links because I like a word doc. You can paste almost anything into them and I only have to maintain the one file.

I looked at my PDF's and they are all data sheets I have downloaded for purchased parts. These almost never need to be printed,  I just have them linked for viewing with the associated item.

Printing in DBA is only supported for PDF format with Adobe.  Other formats require Evo for printing and can only be viewed in DBA.

I still have not been able to resolve this problem. I have successfully run the following command at the command prompt : acrord32.exe /p /h Y:\IMGTEST\TEST.PDF - it prints the document straight to the printer.
I have confirmed that the Y drive is mapped to my computer but DBA still will not print the Linked PDF image with the Work Order.

I have set the Global link Path to Y.

Just want to make sure this has been clearly understood.

With Global Link Path set to Y, you should have (based on your earlier info):
  • Default Image path = Y:\IMGTest\ (I don't recall where you set this)
  • Link = test.pdf (no path)
  • Use IE or other : I Specify Other : [blank] (do not specify Acrobat, there's no need and may confuse things)

Hope that helps.

Here's what I had before:
Default Image Path = not set
Link = Y:\IMGTest\test.pdf
Use IE or Other = I

I changed to
Default Image Path = Y:\IMGTest\
Link = test.pdf
Use IE or Other = I

Still no linked image with traveler print. Thanks for your time!

Thumbnails need the new(er) form. Maybe Linked Docs do too? Just for "fun" I would try a current RTM version. Even if yours is modified just try the stock one to see if it works. If so, then go ahead and modify the new one. Or there may be something you can copy. The thumbnail object can actually be copied from the new form to the old one...

Rename current RTM to BKWOC1.YYMMDD (or whatever you want)
Copy BKWOC1.RTX from \DBAMFG\RTX to \DBAMFG
Rename to BKWOC1.RTM

Also Adobe needs to be installed as your PDF viewer, not some other program.  DBA is hard coded to call Adobe Acrobat for printing PDF.  You need to make sure the path to the Acrobat reader is in your Windows environment path.
