A little more info needed, I think?

I assume you've double checked the BOM and Routing.

Where are the "cost of part and outside processing" coming from? i.e. where are they entered or on what report/screen do you see them?

Where are the "adding up to" numbers coming from? i.e. on what report/screen do you see them?

ok so lynn pointed me in the right direction

there was cost in the material field  like these were type R items

still don't know how it got there because these are all type A items that have the issue

and there seem to be many

its like a cost roll up went wild on some items

re rolling wont fix it

I had to use UT-A fix std to zero out the offending material cost.

now I need to somehow find all the items that have this issue
any ideas ?

Evo is not very restrictive on these kind of issues.

My guess is that either the item was copied from a type R part, or was a type R part at one time.

Do this to see what Evo erroneously allows: (all in IN-B) change a part from type A/F to R. Now enter a material cost, roll up cost and save. Change part type back to A/F - still has a "this level material cost". Hint - you can fix the problem that way - change them to R, set Material Cost to 0 and change back to A.

Should be easy enough to create a report for all A/F parts with a "This level material cost" of >0.

Using access to check type A items where MTIC_PROD_RCOST_2 >0

found 183 of them

they all look like they came from an import we did many many years ago

that's my guess anyway

on many the error was small but today they added up to over 10k on one bom

I was in a panic because I need to get a quote done and there were a bunch of these items on 1 bom and I was thinking something blew up.

all should be well after I use my new jitbit macro recorder to fix them all
