Windows Server 2008 R2 Anti Virus
08/06/14 at 11:09:22

I have just switched from Novell to a Windows Server, and had been using AVG Business Anti Virus software.  After many problems with both DBA, Network, PSQL and other programs, I was told by a consultant that AVG makes Windows unstable, and I should use Symantec Cloud Service.  This turned out to be a nightmare of problems with no help from Symantec support.  I have tried to uninstall AVG, and still have not been successful.  For DBA to function, I have had to disable AVG  The uninstall program just locks up the server, and I had to hold in the power button to shut down.  What do some of you use for virus protection that doesn't cause problems?

We have been using AVG for several years now (6 or 7?) No issues at all. We have the Business Edition as well.

We use Symantec Endpoint Protection Small Business Edition and haven't had any problems with it.  I do recall we added .RWN and .RUN file extensions to the exceptions list in Symantec.

Thanks to all for feedback on this issue.  I finally discovered how to use the AVG Business AV software on a 2008R@ server.  I uninstalled the firewall and E-mail protection (Not needed) and all is working fine.
