Clocking in and out of labor has slowed down a lot
08/15/14 at 13:10:16

I'm getting reports that employees are standing around for up to 30 seconds waiting for DBA to clock them in and out of labor.  Nothing in our environment has changed (and no archiving has been done for at least a year).  I'm wondering if there is a specific archiving I should run.  I read through the archiving wiki here and it wasn't clear to me that any of them sped up clocking in and out of labor.  Any suggestions?

Which program are you using?  Evo T7DCA (GUI version) or DBA CLassic?

The clock in stations are all Classic, though a few employees who use Evo for their jobs use it to clock in/out as well.  I received your email about archiving WO having an effect on this.  I ran an archive over the weekend and waiting til the end of the day to see how quickly the clock out process goes.

Thanks,
Tim

Archiving data is always a good thing.
But archiving by itself will not speed up your system

You need to :
  • Backup
  • Archive
  • Reindex

You can access the reindex  utility by opening the UT-C Menu, also ISTECH has a better utility for a very reasonable price.
When performing this utilities no user can be logged

Kellogs,

Thanks for the reminder on reindexing.  I forgot to reindex after I archived!

Got this resolved by Lynn and the programmers.  BTW, Lynn suggested that reindexing should only free up disk space, not speed up access.  Our tests seemed to confirm that.

The programmer created a DC Shift Record archiver, which is in the patches for the latest version.  Once I archived 51,000 old shift records, the issue is gone.  Thanks, Lynn!
