Optimization Problem
02/13/15 at 09:37:45

My boss has a problem I think we can use EVO to fix it...

Given a handful it items with unique BOM's, I'd like to be able to run a program that will tell me how many of each type of we can build with the goal of maximizing direct margin.

We are constrained by on hand material available and labor is not a consideration.

Each assembly has a unique BOM, but some BOM's share components.

Is there a module in EVO which can accomplish this task?

make a test item

add the items you want to make to that test item bom
use the bom availability on the test item to process your list.

or

put items you want to make in the MRP forecast
and run the MRP

but

you need to have your stuff setup for mrp with lead times and such

Thanks for the response!

We've used the BOM availability before, and you can only run this for 1 P/N, and we need to run it for multiple P/N's. I haven't used the MRP forecast before, so maybe this will do what we want. I'll get back to you guys with the results!

There's no reason you cant run BOM availability on a test item that has all that parts and quantities you want to check on its BOM.

and MRP rocks

if your not using it your selling your business short.

Most of the settings you need on your parts can be mass set so its not that painful to get it up to speed where it will deliver real benefits.

hurts nothing to try it.

We definitely use MRP for our business but I personally don't use it. I'm acting as the technical liaison between here and my Boss, but I'm still waiting to hear back from him for the results.

Thanks for the help.  We did create a “Master BOM” calling out the different assemblies each with unique BOMs.  We then ran BOM availability and got a list of material we needed to procure in order to produce the complete “Master BOM”.
