Allowed Special Characters in Part #s

What are the allowed special characters in part #s that won't cause sporadic problems?  We use many forward slashes ( / ) in parts on one of our companies, we always have. But are they OK?

AFAIK (but I could be wrong) you can use any keyboard character in an Item Number, and DBA/Evo handles it fine. Where it potentially causes a problem is in exporting/importing information, or integrated systems that treat those characters differently.

Commas, Single and Double quotes are not allowed in item numbers because the Evo drill downs treat them as delimiters.  Dashes and Slashes are OK.
