A question from a consultant...
03/12/03 at 13:56:14

Yeah I suppose it is unusual for me to ASK a question, but.....

Has anyone figured out what the minimum level of network access is required to be able to use the Pervasive Monitor to connect to a W2K Server to see the active Pervasive users?

I just created a user with no special rights member of no group other than users  on our Win 2K server.  This user had no problem getting into Pervasive Monitor and seeing who the users are and what files are open.  More disturbing this user was able to close the open files and disconnect the users.

I then enabled a Guest account with only guest privileges.  That account was also able to get into Pervasive Monitor, see users and files and close files, and disconnect users.

Is that what you wished to know?  It appears that if you can get to the server at all you can run these .  That does not please me. Angry

This can be changed.  I changed the security setting for the Pervasive folder.  I changed the group Everyone to have Read only access.  This keeps everyone but the administrators out of the Monitor and Pervasive engine files.  Much better.   Grin

It is unfortunate the the default setting is to inherit permissions and carry forward access.  At least this can be locked down.

There is a way to lock it out. I always had to use my Domain Admin password. I don't have a system to test with at the moment, though.

On the DBAMFG folder, the Everyone group had no access, Domain Users had change access i think, Domain Admins had full control. On the local workstation, the user was not a local administrator. See if that gives you an idea. Wish I could be of more help... embarrassed
