Access & DBA field names
03/28/03 at 14:19:39

Hi,
I am trying to link to DBA with MS Access but get an error that the field names contain invalid charaters, i.e. the Work Order table. According to DBA UT-H, there is a field MTWO.WIP.INSTR but Access sees it as MTWO.WIP.INSTR[ 1].

What am I missing? Is it a configuration problem with ODBC/??

No.  It is a problem with the DDF's that were created by the TAS language programmer.  They are not completely standard.

So has anyone got MS Acess and DBA to work together? I want to work on a project that requires DBA to export to Access but I get the same errors.

Yes, we have done many programs using Access and VB to do a great deal of searchability and reporting.

hehe, care to share your secret?

Also, I'm trying to use the "DBA ODBC Connectivity Center" app made by Gregory J. Randazzo, and after creating my server and client DSN's, I get this error after I do the "Get DSN" part,
"Failed to create DSN Connection String. Error 3011 - The Microsoft Jet database engine could not find the object 'BKSUMSTR'. Make sure the object exists and that you spell its name and the path name correctly. Please check the error log for details."

And the error log is no help:
"The Microsoft Jet database engine could not find the object 'BKSYMSTR'.  Make sure the object exists and that you spell its name and the path name correctly."

When trying to import and using the same DSN it will see all the tables but then I get the aformentioned error of table names not being valid.

Any quick fix for this?

thanks

Go to UT-A, run "ODBCDDF".  This will create DDF's in the folder of the company in which you are working.

Re-direct your DSN to have the DDF and data from the particular company folder.

hehe,.....I found that out from further research on that guys site and realized that there was a special DDF generator for ODBC and ran it and it works beautifully, but thanks for the reply!!

To help out the original poster, this white paper explains how to solve your problem (as aricon also showed), and it also has a great utility to simplify the process:

Thanks for all the input/feedback.

I was able to resolve my problem by forcing the OEM/ANSI compliance within the ODBC connection.
