I just installed the demo and it looks rather promising, however, it appears to run at a snail's pace. Loading the initial menu takes 30+ seconds, and loading a program can take almost 10 seconds. Navigating data also appears slow in the demo company, so I'm concerned about the speed on some of our monster databases.

Anyone else having speed issues, or am I doing something wrong?

Also, is there documentation on using the new bells and whistles?

But they ARE working on it. Kinda going to depend on if people pony up and buy it. Development doesn't happen for free. Programmers are people and they tend to want to be paid....kinda strange, I know, but that is how is.

I have it loaded on live data here, both workstation and server are WIN 2000 and the initial load of the menu after I enter username and password is less than 5 seconds. The speed lodaing the programs after the initial load is essentially instantaneous.

It does seem a little slow, I'm seeing 3-5 seconds to display a new screen on P4 1.6GHz 512GB. Most of our users have 300-400MHz Celeron PCs, so that would make it even slower on those computers. Also some screen display problems, but most are minor cosmetic issues.

We are interested in the new interface, but the speed needs to be at least close to current system or users will complain.

We're running Windows 2000 Server with mostly Windows 98 workstations. Most workstations are 300-500Mhz. We're running Client-Server DBA, if that makes any difference, and the splash screen is off.

I actually timed a few things ... initial load after clicking "ok" on the login is right at 40 seconds. This is on a 500 Mhz machine.

Loading IN-A took 15 seconds to load. AR-A took 8. A few are pretty quick, but most are in the 10-15 second range. This is from selecting the program, to once the screen has been painted.

Function within a program seems ok speed wise, but I can't check out our main company and it's monster databases with the demo version.

I agree with Tommy ... we're going to be in the same boat with the speed issue.

OH ... any documentation on how to use the program?

I just downloaded the file (approx 11:30 EST) and there is no difference in the speed. Also, as for the documentation ... the installation process did not create a Program Group. Found another culprit that can steal speed from Evo - Norton AntiVirus (and maybe other anti-virus programs as well). Had a user with up to 10 seconds to load program screens from the menu. Went into the Norton AV configuration and told the Live Scan to ignore files with RUN and RWN extension (which are the DBA program files called by the EXE) and speed is MUCH improved.

Since the RUN and RWN files are not executables in their own right, it is safe to exclude them from the live scan.

Is there something wrong with my setup or is this normal? Do I need to change any settings or update anything to improve this? I am runnimg the 4-15-03 update.

That is a specific known factor in the loading of the program screens.

The anti-virus software was a big factor for a number of users. The 30 day trial is free and if you don't like it, the old DBA icon will still work so there is really no risk!
