Validate data entry in DBA Sales Order entry
04/30/03 at 15:00:10

Is is possible to set up some sort of data validation within the DBA Sales Order module?  We are thinking of implementing standard order quantities on our parts and want to ensure that the data entry gets done accordingly when entering a sales order.  On many of our parts they may come in packages of say, 100, but we'll sell non-standard quantities such as 50, or 110, 175, etc.  We want to say if you want 155, you'll have to order 200 if the part if packaged in 100, or if you want 65 you have to order 100, and somehow make sure that the sales order gets entered only for packaged quantity increments.

How can you do that?  Can we do that in DBA?

Thanks in advance,

Val

That would involve custom programming.  It can be done, but it would be a custom.

I'm assuming that the part number can't be by the package? That is, p/n "THINGIE", description "100 thingies", quantity is 1 and UM is pkg. If, for some reason  you need to be able to break them down to single pieces, you could make the selling product a Kit type item that has the package quantity. In this case you may have p/n "THINGIE-1" as a purchased part, UM ea. (you might want to include "FOR INTERNAL USE ONLY" in the description or specifications). Then make p/n "THINGIE-100" as a Kit type item that contains 100 "THINGIE-1"s.

Another idea if you need individual piece control - why not include "This item sold by full package of 100 ONLY!!" in the part specifications? Then at least when you get to the end of the line you'll see the restrictions.

Right now the part number does not reflect any "by the package" sizes, unfortunately.  We've had a policy in place that we would sell whatever number the customer wanted, but we spend so much time breaking down packages to do this we've decided to stop.  We get items shipped in standard package sizes, and want a way to alert in SO entry that 1 is in fact a package of 100, for example.  And that would the be minimum order quantity, period.  Using the part spec may be one way of doing that.  A good suggestion we'll try in our test company and see what happens. Any other ideas other than a custom?

Thanks much!
