When DBA crashes why do I need to reboot?

Is there any way around rebooting all the time when DBA goes down?

It currently always thinks there is mulitple instances on my machine.

Thanks,

Mike

If you're gettng a message about only being able to run one copy of DBA, try:

Start > Run and  type: f:\dbamfg\dbams

This will allow you to turn on multi-session capacity and launch DBA without rebooting.

run X:\DBAMFG\DBAMS.EXE and click the huge "button" that says "Alllow multiuser use of DBA" or some such thing.

Are there any ill side effects to allowing this?  I'd like to enable this on all of our workstations but my first mind tells me that it's disabled for a reason, right??

If you only use it to launch a new session after a crash without rebooting, it is fine.  But if you use it to actually launch and run simultaneous sessions, you can cause memory conflicts and you use up additional user counts.

It was introduced initially because people new to the Windows environment and mouse use would inadvertently do more than double click on the icon and launch multiple sessions without realizing it.
