Upgrade from W-NT 4.0 to XP
07/30/03 at 10:24:06

Lynn,

We have installed Windows XP on main server..(Peer to Peer)
Are there any changes that we should make to DBA or to XP settings?

We have had some problems with a couple of the network each day that they copy "program files on other drivers letters - sometimes 2 to 5 then some mornings 8 to 12.  Our program files are on C drive.
and DBA is on E drive.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Vanetta

Assuming all the users have the appropriate priveleges when logging into the XP station and the mapped drive to the location of DBA, you shouldn't need to do anything special.  I am not sure what you are describing when you say the stations are copying program files to other drive letters, can you explain more clearly?

My Computer - right click- Explore

(CSmiley System drive - all files including program files
(DSmiley CD drive
(ESmiley dbamfg on "pec3"

I keep getting these most days, as I said sometimes 2 or 3 are copied below E: drive or as many as 8 to 12 drives in sequence.  This morning I had drives F to O, and after lunch only drive F copied over. Same amount of file space on each.

I have been going through Network Neighborhood and disconnect each drive during the day, but the seem to show back up.. Is this a networking/path problem???

Thanks again,
Vanetta

Sounds like a logon script that keeps re-connecting the drives.

When you say they show back up...are you logging off, switching a user on an XP station or rebooting?

Any of those would cause the logon script to run again.  Is this a possibility?

Just a post so other users know what happened.  I talked to Vanetta today and we got her system back up.  Lesson of the day -  upgrading a workstation from NT or another older operating system to XP (or probably also WIN 2000 or any new OS)  without reinstalling Pervasive doesn't work.  Need to run the Pervasive Cleanup and reinstall the Pervasive station and After updating the OS, both on the server and workstations.  Registry settings don't translate well between OS.  As I recall from other posts, this is not a DBA/Pervasive issue but rather across the board when updating stations.  Uninstall and reinstall programs rather than counting on the upgrade/migration to do it for you.
