shipment tracking number

We like to provide customers with shipment tracking numbers. Currently we use the "ship via" field in "release orders" to insert a tracking number. UPS uses large tracking numbers, that do not fit. Also overriding the carrier id is not desired.
Is there a field that prints on invoices, that could be accessed during order release to allow entering a tracking number? Maybe "job number" or "order description"?

Not yet but there will be soon.  Next update (planned for 9/26) will have a new Long Shipment Tracking number that can be entered in SO-E or in a new program that will be simply an entry of freight charges and shipment tracking numbers by Sales Order so you don't have to go through the whole SO-E process a second time to enter freight charges.  The tracking number will be saved as a Note line against the Sales Order so it can print onthe invoice.
