Transfer DBA from Win98 to XP System
11/18/03 at 06:19:38

We run DBA as peer to peer. We have a new system, larger, faster, and with XP vs Win 98.
We know just enough to be dangerous, and are looking for some direction on how to correctly transfer our application and data from one system to another.
Also, the clients would be both Win98 and XP.
Will that create any issues?

Transferring is really pretty simple.  Install a clean copy of DBA and Pervasive to the new XP station from the DBA CD-ROM.  Then simply copy the DBAMFG folder and subfolders from the existing W98 station to the new XP station.  A combination of 98 and XP clients will be no problem.  Just make sure you have the 2000i version of Pervasive, not an older one.

OK. Part one worked great. We loaded the application and seems to be fine. Transfered the DBAMFG folder over. Seemed ok but,  the application can't find the data files. I ran gateway via pervasive. Still nothing. Help!!

No error message at all.  Just no data to access.
We started with a fresh copy of the DBA from CD, loaded directly onto the new server.... and then copied the entire DBAMFG folder from our old server, over the network (Peer to peer) into the new DBAMFG folder on the new server, created by the CD.  The application works ok. You could enter data if you were starting a new company.  Seems the application just can't see our data.

When you copied the data, did you create a DBAMFG folder under the already created DBAMFG folder on the new server?

into the new folder the was creaed by the CD ROM on the new server. Did we over write?

I would suggest that you re-install JUST the DBA server program from the CD and then copy the default and whatever other data folders you have back in after that and see if it works.

If it doesn't, let me know and I will see what else might be of assistance.

Sounds to me like Lorne was on the right track.  If you copied the DBAMFG from the old server INTO the DBAMFG created by the CD installation on the new server, then the new server has C:\DBAMFG\DBAMFG with your data in the nested copy in C:\DBAMFG\DBAMFG\DEFAULT but the icon is pointing to the upper level folder.  Wouldn't be the first time, I have seen as many as 5 nested levels of DBAMFG. Shocked
