Copying Work Orders?
12/08/03 at 17:06:00

Hi!  I've got a question regarding copying a BOM from an older work order to a new work order.  Here's an example of what I mean:

In May, I created a work order and a work order BOM with 44 items on it.  The work order gets released, production is done, and the work order is closed.

It's December and my customer wants the same identical product made again.  I create a new work order.  Instead of creating and re-entering all 44 items into the new work order BOM, is there anyway I can access the old work order BOM and just copy it into the new one?

Thanks!

Assuming you are using the same part number as the parent part for the 2 work orders and aren't using it as a generic part for everything else, before you create the second work order, go to WO-K-B and click Copy to BOM.  Enter the original work order number and all the BOM components will become the standard BOM for that parent part and pull into the new work order when you create it.

I've not yet upgraded and am currently on 2001.1, but when I copy from a closed work order - it copies, but also automatically issues the material - I don't like that part.  Does it still do that in the newer version.

Never tested but it shouldn't - if it does, I will fix it.  I suspect it copies the WOBOM records without zeroing out the quantity issued but it doean't actually generate transactions to issue the material.  If that is the case, you can run BKREBWO at UT-A after copying and it will zero out the issued quantities.
