copying part numbers copies price
04/07/04 at 13:05:04

Is there a setting that will prevent DBA from copying the price when copying the part number?  OUr person building part numbers does not set the price.  When she uses the copy function the price is copied and she cannot fix it.  Prices can be very different even though other settings for the parts are close enough to copy.

No, cost rollup doesn't affect selling price.  The tricky bit here is that selling price is set way over in the sales module and doesn't appear in IN-B's screen, so it's easy to copy a price from a similar item without thinking about it.  Had to fix one of those about an hour ago...

Anyway, I don't know of a setting like that.  I'd like a button in IN-B to set selling price, with a prompt for copy price like that for cost rollup.

I agree, a place in IN-B to set selling price would be nice although I am sure there will be those who don't want it there so I will need to set up yet another SD-Q default to enable/disable it.  Let me see what can be done.

Only a couple people have rights to alter the selling price here, but more can enter inventory.  So I like the idea of a default to turn off this function allowing you to enter SP in IN-B.

I mentioned a button to open SO-Q-A, but just putting the price field on the IN-B screen would be lots better, and there's plenty of space.

Rights to set price aren't an issue here, at least now, but I can see that they would be for many.  Best might be a 3-way default:  as it is now (no display, no change); display but disallow change; display and allow change.

I would think a option to copy or not to copy price would be easiest. But then I am NOT a programmer!  A price field in IN-B would work for us too, but it would definitely need to have access controlled by security.  We do have some people with access to IN-B that don't know a thing about the price we charge for  an item.

Dont you need a routing and a bom before you come up with a base price ?

Are you just buying and reselling ?

I use generate base price SO-J after entering new items.

All I care about is that the cost's and routings are correct

I let the computer do the rest.

That's fine if the same person is both entering the part and generating the price.  Different people work at different speeds, however, and we have been caught quoting and/or selling a part at a wrong price.
We do sell some of our R type parts as well as finished goods, so routing and BOM don't come into play with them.
With the finished goods that have routing and BOM, we would like the chance to generate a price, instead of having one inserted for us!
