Mass updating extracted data
05/24/04 at 13:02:58

Thanks to this forum I have learned how to extract data out of DBA using queries within Excel or Access. Now I would like to learn how to take that extracted data and after making mass changes to the data, be able to use that as a source to go back into DBA.  Or I need to know that updating DBA with tables is a very complicated thing best left to only those highly experienced in SQL, Visual Basic, or whatever it is that is used for such a process.

Taking data out of the DBA tables with Access is quite easy. Getting it back in is REALLY hard and problem prone. It will often work with some of the master tables (BKARCUST and such) but a lot of the tables that are part of a functional schema, BKICMSTR and MTICMSTR as an example, will usually blow up. What you need is an import routine written in TAS.

Thanks very much for your response.  I was hoping someone with your qualifications would reply.  Since I don't know TAS or have the compiler, getting data back into DBA is out of the question.
