BACKFLUSH
10/08/04 at 08:26:17

WO-G , Single part issued , balance of BOM not issued.
WO-I , Go to complete the order, message that all materials not issued. If I say yes to backflush, not only does it backflush the unissued materials it also re-issues the single part that was single issued from WO-G.

I have also noticed WO-G will allow you to "pick" the material mutiple times.

Does DBA not know when the requirement has been fullfilled ?

No it doesn't know. It allows over-issues. Some folks do this as a normal function. As a consultant, I don't really agree with this practice, but if it is what works for them, then..... Wink

As far as the backflush issuing again....well the idea behind backflushing is that you don't want to issue item by item, so DBA does not look at whatever may have happened through WO-G, it just blows the BoM against the WO and moves on.

Actually, IS Tech has addressed this with a new setting in the SD-B Work Order Defaults for Backflush at Enter Finished Production = B meaning issue only the balance remaining for all components based on the assembly quantity completed.

The problem with the B setting is that you don't get to choose to backflush.  We have finished goods that we backflush materials by sequence.  If we could chosse to backflush unissued items in WO-G or not that would be great, but sometimes we don't want to and we don't get the chance to just say no.  DBA just starts issuing.
So we keep the setting a Y and don't backflush items that have already had issues.  I would love to see the ability to choose to issue in the B setting!

The "B" setting is for at WO-I, not WO-G so it backflushes whatever hasn't already been issued by sequence after the fact.  You would have already processed the items that get backflushed by sequence by the time you get to WO-I so why doesn't this approach work for you?

Oops, I meant WO-I and not WO-G.  Mainly because the one item we do not backflush is our fabric which is lot controlled.  We do not always issue exactly what is in the bill(for instance, 0.03 yds different).  With the automatic backflush it issues fabric that was not issued and then needs a lot number, sending the person finishing production into a swoon!  We would have to change the work order bill every time the exact yardage was not  issued, and that is just too much maintenance.

Ah...I understand.  We have a default for BOM items to be excluded from scrap backflushing (as in the case of packaging materials and boxes).  maybe there needs to be another one for exclusion from backflushing altogether.

Lynn, in the mid-range systems what they have is a flag on each item record that specifies whether the item should 1) always be excluded from backflushing 2) always be included or 3) ask. That seems to pretty much satisfy just about everyone......except of course those users that want the system to read their minds..... Wink (of course we all know how few of THOSE users there are......)  Wink Grin

We love backflushing!  We take care of it right now by not putting those lot controlled items in a sequence and only backflushing by sequence for our finished goods type, and only backflush in WO-I with assemblies that have no lot controlled items.  Of course, there is the occasional mistake in which the person finishing production accidentally says yes to backflush for a FG type work order. Really ugly!  So to be able to exclude our lot controlled items from ever being backflushed , however it is accomplished,  would be great!  Grin
