Data Export
06/10/05 at 07:02:34

I am trying to export my general ledger transactions for a specific period -  in DE-A, data export I chose file BKGLTRAN, all fields and then filtered by BKGL.TRN.DATE , 9/01/04 to 4/30/05 -  this ran thru the file and selected no entries,  I then filtered by BKGL.TRN.ENTDTE and the same thing happened- I guess I need to know if I can export only a portion of my GL entries and if so what do I need to do that I'm not doing now?

I tried it here and it worked (had to dump out early because it was going to run all day).  Be sure you follow the directions carefully.  I used Standard Long Date, Fixed Length Output and entered filter dates as mm-dd-yy.  Output file will land in your \DBAMFG folder.

The export is running now and is about half way thru my transactions and has not selected any yet-  I don't think this is going to work either- any other suggestions?

Lynn Identified a bug just the other day with DEA. Seems it is your dates.  It is doing 9 thru 4 not the whole date.. I need to look into this.  but try doing 9/01/04 thru 12/31/04 then another one for 01/01/05 thru 4/30/05

 undecided

How many total records do you have?  The program will look at all records and only pick up those that meet your filter criteria.

We have over half a million GL transactions in the system and it seemed like it would run for hours to get through them all if I let it.  It did start picking up some records fairly quickly though.

If the file is indexed by account, then department, then date then you won't necessarily get all your date filtered records in one lump.

Crystal and Access are other options.  You could also ODBC to Excel and then manipulate there.

FYI, I ran an ODBC query in Excel and pulled up the filtered data in seconds.
