Create New Default Location
06/20/05 at 08:55:19

We currently have one company in EVO with 5 locations.  1 for Manufacturing and 4 for Parts depot locations.  I just created a new company, copying all of the information from the original company.  I want to make one of the Parts locations the default location for the new company and delete the Manufacturing location which was the default location.

Is there a way to do this without consolidating all of the parts locations?

Also, tried to clear all transactional data in the new company but I keep getting this error: "The field your are trying to use is unallocated.  It may belong to a file that hasn't been opened yet, or was an array that was removed from memory - LOC_FILE_NAME."

Any suggestions?

Locations can be tricky. I made many mistakes while in the learning curve. I Renamed the default location with Maintain database. Don't do this. I also Deleted it. Don't do that.  All of your existing, Sales Orders, PO's WO's inventory as well as all past records have the blank as their location. If you run Inv Reconciliation it will recreate this blank default location. In my opinion using the consolidate inv locations first to your new default location is the way to go. Then recreate your needed locations and transfer inv. to them. Be careful in using batch transfer. I have had issues with multi line items same part # and serial controlled. Without serial control I have had no problems.

Thanks J for the input.  I'll proceed along the lines you suggested with the default inventory location.  Better safe than sorry.

I still need help with this problem:

"Also, I tried to clear all transactional data in the new company but I keep getting this error: "The field your are trying to use is unallocated.  It may belong to a file that hasn't been opened yet, or was an array that was removed from memory - LOC_FILE_NAME."

Any suggestions?  After the company was created I followed the directions at www.istechsupport.com/datadict.asp.  I have created another company once before but have never also tried to delete the transactional data.

Yes, trying UT-K-A in Evo.

Also tried to clear data in DBA Classic but couldn't get the program to select the new company.  (It shows but doesn't open)

Can you please send me the fix when it is done?  Will it be soon?

Thanks Lynn.

In Classic, go to PS-C and give your user code access to the new company, then you can change to it.

Make sure you make a SANDBOX Co. first with your realtime stuff and than run that consolidate inv. on that Co. first. It takes many hours to run depending on the No. of Transactions in your system. I had an error at the very end of it, but all seemed ok. While playing around with transfer stuff I have seen that the error has had some impact. Obviously make a complete back-up of all your *.b* files in DBA folder. Only Run this when no one else will be on the system. If you have any errors in the process at all, restore your files and try again. This program changes every PO, WO, SO INV Trans to this new location for reporting and other reasons. It is a major Data change. I have succesfully used it on our realtime data and all is great.

Thanks
