Did you ever get an answer to this question. We have the same issue and cannot find a way to delete these items. Most of them have been added in error, but since we ran a physical inventory they now have a transaction attached to them. ???

Thanks,
Elizabeth

If the items are on SO, there is no way to delete them (unless the SO history with the item on it is purged).  Often, if an item has been on a WO or has transaction history it cannot be deleted, again until the relevant history is purged.

Actually, SO History (Posted Invoices) do not need to be purged, only Closed So from the Open SO file.

You must also delete it's BOM as well as any UOH showing in the serial file. These are separate from the actual UOH in inventory.

I couldn't find a way to delete an item, so instead I went to:

System Manager, System Maintenance, File Maintenance Programs, Change Item Numbers
(SM-J-L)
and changed the offending items to a new part number of:

XXDONTUSEXX
XXDONTUSE1XX
XXDONTUSE2XX

And so on.

I find it hard to believe there's no answer to this and I need to bump this post to hopefully get one.  We have a couple of items that need to be removed.  Specifically, duplicate of the same item numbers are showing up.  I'm not sure how they were created, but regardless, I need to get rid of them.  There must be something wrong with the record, as we can't view the item in IN-A or IN-B.  It'll show up on the lookup, but if you select the item, it says that BKICMSTR is locked by another user.  Only the original item is able to be viewed.  So anyway, short answer on how to remove these records / items please??

Maintain Database on BKICMSTR, MTICMSTR and BKICLOC if you are sure there is no history or other related information.  In your case, it sounds like the item may not exist in all 3 files but is an orphan record in only one of them.

Yes, it/they appears orphaned in BKICMSTR.  I can see them, but I still get the locked error message when trying to access them in Maintained Database.  I assume the minus (-) button at the bottom is the delete, but that also shows up grayed out.

Your problem is different than what the subject of this thread was.

I had this same problem.  I was caused by a bug in an update quite some time ago.  It was creating rogue duplicate records in BKICMSTR and MTICMSTR.  Since these were just duplicate records in these two tables, and not legitimate items with related records in other files, you use Maintain Database to remove them.

Choose the appropriate BKICMSTR table from the list, put the item number in the search box, click search.  You should find more than 1 record with the same Item number.  Check each row, and verify which one is valid.  Click in any field of the invalid record, then click the '-' button at the bottom of the screen.  This will delete this record from this table.  Do the Same in the MTICMSTR table.

** WARNING: The '-' record delete button is not reversable!!  Make sure you are on the correct record (row).

Thanks for that Kevin, although this topic still seems unanswered... In any event, I tryied what you suggested and as I said above, I only have the duplicates in the BKICMSTR file and the (-) is grey out.  All users are out of the system, but if I check off "Allow Editing" it still says the item is locked by another user.

Sounds like you need to delete some user file handles in the Pervasive Monitor maybe?
