IS Tech User Symposium
09/03/05 at 19:00:33

Seriously looking at holding a meeting for all DBA & IS Tech users - thinking someplace warm in winter - Maybe February in LA or Phoenix...

1.  Location preference - Phoenix, Los Angeles, Hawaii, Tahiti...?
2.  What would make it worthwhile?  Training sessions. demos, consultants?  No point in holding the meeting if nobody is going to come...

Please provide feedback.  What would be of interest and worthy of making the trip?

1. The more centrally located the better.
2. Definitely UPS/FedEx integration, forms and reports customizing, best practices, "getting the most out of...", and demos of auxilliary programs. Maybe a brain-storming session on the future of Evo-ERP, too.

Not that this forum isn't a great place to converse about all of this stuff, but many times follow-through is an issue with a forum. It's also a bear to wade through searches to find answers.

While we're on the subject of improvements, ever thought of using the open-source model for your documentation? No, not for programming your product, just for the help and docs portion. It could use some  correction, face lift, completion, and improvement, not to mention a new PDF version (which could be created on-the-fly, if setup properly). There would be a bit of overhead to managing the Content Management System that runs it, but that's much easier than keeping up with it yourself, eh?

Since I live in Montana... someplace without snow is always nice in February.

I ask that you hold meetings so all could attend everything you have to offer.  Please don't have "tracks" to pick from.  I would rather spend 2 days away then only receive 1/2 the info.

I vote for all of the above, especially forms editing. ALso, attaching files to items and travelers, etc. As for location, since I live on the California very north coast, somewhere where there is no rain either!

here's another 2 cents for the pot.

Last October we attended a convention for MT manufacutres.  They had tours of local mfg'ers for us to learn from.  We picked up some great "lean" ideas.  Maybe one of your customers would be willing to let us see DBA in the wild.

I am leaning towards Phoenix.  It is warm, not much rain and while not truly "Centrally" located, it is a hub for America West and is serviced by Southwest so there are reasonably priced flight options from just about anywhere.  And there are a number of IS Tech subscribers in greater Phoenix  so a tour of "DBA in the wild" may well be an option.

I would attend a day or two in Phoenix in February since it is such a cheap trip from CA.  Some concerns/comments:

I wonder how many east-coasters would make the trip.

There is a risk of trying to accomplish too much and not really getting anything done.

I would like to see some add-on programs and consultant offerings in action.

This event could be very valuable as a feedback session for IS Tech to get a feel for what potential improvements would have the most value for the most users.

FYI... March & April are busy trade show months for our industry.  I plan on going and maybe even bringing a co-worker.

I think it would be very useful for us. Since I am the one who has to implement this whole thing in my company, I would love to see how the various parts of the program come together. I would like to see some information on the setup and various reports capabilities. Also some of the customizing of reports would be helpful.

We are planning February 9 & 10 for the IS Tech User symposium in Phoenix.  Hotel details to follow.  Estimated cost - Registration fee $45/person for 1 or 2 people per company; $25 per person for additional people per company - maybe more if we decide to include lunch; no additional charge for any symposium sessions; travel and lodging are your own responsibility.

Once the costs are finalized, I will send a flyer out to all forum members with an agenda of sessions.  Initial concept is to have 2 conference rooms available.  One will host the formal seminars and the other will be open as an informal room to chat (face to face rather than via the forum) with other users, IS Tech support and programming staff.

We are also considering offering more formal training seminars Feb 7 & 8 (for an additional charge) depending on interest.  Feedback welcome.  It's warm in Phoenix in February!!!  (At least warmer than Montreal which is where I happen to be this week as I write this!)

Lynn,

I'm glad your symposium is going to happen.  I will be there along with a co-worker.  Since, "cheap air fares" are non-existant from Helena, MT ($400 give or take a few bucks), we would be willing to attend additional training on Tuesday & Wednesday.  Maybe you could arrange a tour or two one of those days with local mfg'ers.  We are interested in seeing how LEAN MFG'ers use DBA (especially those that barcode).
