Does anybody know what the field MTIC_PROD_LONGP in MTICMSTR is used for?

It's not being used. Lynn and I have discussed making it active, but it is a huge undertaking. MTIC.PROD.LONGP was added by DBA a very long time ago to do 30 character Item numbers.  To do so would force every program that uses, displays, or prints item numbers (almost everything) to be modified. If it is the will of the people, we can do it.

I, for one, would love to see this happen.  We asked for it on at least 2 other occasions BI (before ISTech).  It's very hard for us to devise Item numbering based on 15 characters.
