Scheduling with a common start date in SH-P

I am working with a company that makes furniture.  To minimize the scrap cuts of wood from 8 x 4 sheets, the company wants to start certain work orders on a common start date and the data for the work orders is (I know data is plural but I refuse to say 'are' - LOL) run through optimizer software and then cut patterns are established for the NC saws.  Their current ERP system which cost over $250,000 can not handle this and I have been investigating how DBA (Classic of course) can handle this.  I initially composed this as a request to the Forum for help, but I think I have figured it out so I am now going to publish it on the Forum and hope that someone finds it helpful.  This situation, requiring a  common start date is unique (at least to me) and I am glad to say that DBA, as always, is up to the task.

Problem.  I am trying to re-schedule work orders with a range of different Start Dates or Finish Dates so that they have common Start Dates and I have been using SH-P Lead Time Scheduling.

1.  Note: Key Work Order.  During my experimentation I found that I had to change the Start Date on one WO to the date required for the other WOs.  Note that this WO should be the one with the numerically smallest WO number in the complete range of open WOs.  As my example has 10 WOs this 'key' WO is WO number 1, and this is the WO which always has to be changed for whatever range is being used as the filter (see below).

2.  Work Order Range.  Let's say I have 10 WOs numbered 1 to 10.  I use SH-A Edit WO Start Date and change the Start Date on WO1 to the date required.  Again, note that this WO should be the one with the numerically smallest WO number.  In SH-P select a range of WOs, process, and all the dates are changed correctly.

3.  Finish Date Range.  Again, I wish to start jobs on a common start date.  This common start date is based on a range of finish dates.  Let's say I have 10 WOs numbered 1 to 10. I change the Start Date in SH-A Edit WO Start Date for WO1.  I then use SH-P and select the Finish Date Range for, say, WOs 1 to 6 and then process.  The dates are changed correctly.

I now wish to change the Start Date for the range of WOs based on the Finish Date of WOs 7 to 10.  I set up a new start date for WO1 in SH-A, then use SH-P and select the Finish Date Range for WOs 7 to 10 and process.  This will change the Start Date for WO1 and also for WOs 7 to 10.  Then we can go back and put WO1 back to its correct date.

4.  Job Number Range.  To use the Job Number filter in SH-P make sure that the Job Number is entered in SO-A Enter Sales Orders.  As in above examples, the WO1 Start Date has to be the driver in changing the start dates of the other WOs.
