windows updates and dba
04/05/07 at 08:09:13

Yesterday all of our workstations grabbed some windows updates...after the updates were applied, anytime we tried to print to a fax via dba we would get the good ole blue screen of death.  I uninstalled and re-installed the print drivers, everything prints just fine out of word etc however whenever we try to print to the fax in dba we blue screen again...any ideas?? Up until yesterday...worked without a hitch for the past year....

Thanks in advance!

Have you tried to print to Screen first than to the Fax? Does it only crash on RTM graphical print jobs? Is this XP's fax system? Have all the workstations been rebooted after the updates?

As a note I have turned off all automatic updates on every computer I ever touch. Micro-Sloth can not be trusted by me Wink

Yep - as a standard we print to screen and then fax though I tried to just fax without the print screen...crashes and burns each time....

Does it only crash on RTM graphical print jobs?

The workstations are DBA only - none of the users involved are EVO users....

Is this XP's fax system?

No - we use a savin printer/fax so it is a driver from Ricoh - I downloaded a new driver today, deleted the printers/fax and reinstalled...still blue screens....

Have all the workstations been rebooted after the updates?

All stations automatically rebooted....

As a note I have turned off all automatic updates on every computer I ever touch. Micro-Sloth can not be trusted by me

I have already talked to my network consultants today...was not pleased they turned them all on AGAIN....argh...I agree...like the micro-sloth...lol

Thanks for your thoughts though Smiley

Even with DBA Classic, any time you have the option to select an *.RTM you are doing graphical PRINTing.

Installation of the newly released Security Update for Windows
KB925902 released April 3rd,2007 is causing a conflict between the
Operating System and the LAN-Fax Driver.

Workaround:
Un-install Security Update for Windows KB925902 from the "Add
Remove Programs" in "Control Panel"as a workaround. This will allow
you to continue using the LAN-Fax driver without the issue. Or
discontinue use of the LAN-Fax Driver until the conflict is resolved.
