All you need is a wedge bar code reader plugged into a station (or stations) on the shop floor and the existing Data Collection module in DBA.

I am in the middle of a barcode implementation.  I have tested out 4 different barcode scanners, 3 different scanners from symbol, and one from Dell, all work well.
 
The best low cost option I have found is the Symbol LT-1880 (always on scanner, no need to pull a trigger).  Bought several used units from http://www.recycledgoods.com/ProductDetails.aspx?productID=15348  They worked great and was able to negotiate a good deal by first purchasing a unit off their ebay site, then calling asking for a larger quantity of the scanners direct from them.
