Rev Levels

Hello everyone,

We are having a problem tracking packaging.  Our folding cartons are preprinted and customer specific.  Many of our customers are updating and redesigning artwork for the packaging, but retaining the same UPC number.

For example, could I segregate carton number 12345-67890 with 12,000 cartons under rev level a and 24,000 under rev level b to track what is left in inventory?  If not, can anyone else recommend a good way to do this?  I have thought about adding a letter suffix to the carton but that would give us multiple sets of usage and I'd like to be able to track them together.

Sounds like a good example of Lot numbers.

I would try turning on Lot Tracking for those parts.

I appreciate the quick response.  If I know an item will be changed the next time it comes in, is it possible to assign a lot number to the few left on hand or would this just be from here forward?  We are doing a physical inventory tomorrow morning and I know several items are of two different designs, and it'd be nice to put the tracking in for these items now so I'll know how many old or new designs are left in inventory.
