IN-L-E Update Material Standard Cost
08/23/07 at 13:47:48

I cannot get the material standard cost to roll up to the Average cost or last cost when I run IN-L-E.  Am I doing something wrong or do we have a problem?  Has anyone else had the same problem?

Thank you,

IN-L-E does not do a "Rollup of standard cost", it is merely a utility to COPY either the Last or Average Cost from the Item and put it into the Proper Standard Cost element.

hence, it ONLY does this for Items that are Type R. after completing that step, you then must Rollup your Standard Cost on All your Inventory, i'd run BM-G and Y to rollup, making sure you print to screen.

I just tried to use the IN-L-E Update Standard Cost for an R type.  It looked like it was doing something but the Standard cost for the item was still $0.  I tried it with both Last and Avg (the same for this part).
When I ran BM-G for the part, it said that R types don't have BOM's so I could not roll the part here.
Has anyone else had success with this program?

Yes, I run it every week to keep our costs up-to-date. I always use average (due to the fact that we have some weird price swings, but that's another story) and it updates costs perfectly. Then I use BM-G to roll up the new standards into the FG and assemblies and things are hunky-dory.

Incidentally, do the purchased items that you are trying to run IN-L-E on have purchase history?

Actually the parts I tried this with do not have any purchase history, they were adjusted into inventory.  They do have a last and an average cost.  Is this a problem?

No, if the Last and/or Average Cost has a value and the part is type R then IN-L-E should work.

I look up the last purchased price and in IN-K and change the line for Last Cost to the purchased priced and save.  It will tell you "you have not changed anything" and then I just exit it out.  It will sill change anyway.  Then I go into IN-L-E and use last cost to correct the standard cost.

For some odd reason the last cost will take the average between price changes and display that as the last cost instead of the new increased price from the purchase order.  Yet oddly when I enter a new purchase order it automatically pulls up the last price it was purchased and not what is listed on the IN-A. It only happens on a few items not all, but it drives purchasing nutty when they are trying to lookup the price of an item to purchase.  I never figured out why it does that.  I just do the above to fix it when I come accross it.
