TP7 Setup Error
01/08/08 at 07:01:58

Hi,
I've been trying to install EVO/ERP on a new computer with Windows XP Professional OS.  We have other computers using this OS that are able to use EVO/ERP.  I get an error message TP7 Setup - The default data dictionary files (FILE*.DB2_.MD2) were not found and were not copied correctly.  Sure could use some help.  Has anyone out there come across this error?  DBA is working fine but would really like to use EVO/ERP as it offers so much more.
Thanks,
C Walcott Sad

I too tried to load EVO on 2 different additional computers with no luck...... Not sure where to begin or what the next steps should be.  Tried running evoerp.exe from the server with all sorts of errors.  Then found TAS-J, tried this & still got errors that said that evoerp.exe & EvoERPsetup.exe did not copy properly.  Got one message saying that others were logged in but I was the only one logged in as Administrator.  Then I found the Help file that said that 'after installing the Pervasive Requestor" browse to the program folder on the server and launch EVOERP.EXE - does anyone know what the Pervasive Requester is & where one would find such an animal? Angry

Have either of you tried to copy the files manually?

Heres the output off of a machine here:

I should mention... Copy them manually from another machine on your network which was setup as an Evo client. It should have all of those files in it's ISTS directory. Then run evoerp.exe from there and see what happens.

I recently installed DBA/Evo on a several new computers. It turned out to be fairly simple:

1. Install the Pervasive client/requester (from your original DBA CDs or download)
2. Copy C:\ISTS from a working installation
3. (optional) run C:\ISTS\EvoERPsetup and make changes to email setup.
4. Create shortcup to C:\ISTS\EvoERP.exe

I have installed Evo recently on numerous new XP Pro machines lately and have had no problems.  I install pervasive from the Pervasive folder in DBA- open that folder and run the setup program to install a client.  Then run "evoerp.exe" in the dba folder.  I have not even had to create an ISTS folder before running that setup.  I guess I have just been lucky so far.

I did try to copy the C:\ISTS folder a few times - there was only 1 date difference that I could see in your listing & mine. The date for file 'suwin6.dcy' on my computer is 03/29/2006 whereas yours is 09/25/2006 - Not sure if this would make a difference or not.  I got a message - You have tried to open a BTrieve file and TAS could not load the BTreive DLL.  The file will not be opened.  The BTrieve Memo File (WBTRVMEMO.B) will not be available - then it flashed the EVO login screen & got the next error message - ADV60.LIB Line 2174  then a screen came up with:
File Open Error
Error #65516
Unidentified File Error
File Name: BKSYMSTR
Program Name:  R:\DBAMFG\EVOMENU.RWN.EXE path C:|ISTS
This program will now end
Access Violation@address 00000000.... yada, yada

So I will try again tonight.  Sounds like maybe Pervasive may be the culprit.  Hopefully I can find the correct file to install - do you by any chance know the file name that I should be looking for?

Thanks for all the input.

Those suwin files are your license (I'm pretty sure) so your license info will be different than mine.

It does indeed sound like your pervasive install is not working. You might try uninstalling and reinstalling it and when you reinstall MAKE SURE IT'S THE CORRECT VERSION. It's important that you use the exact same version on every machine.

I just love it when a plan comes together  -  ok, ok so I had to fall face first into it but the Pervasive install cleared up all my problems.  All of your assistance really paid off - THANKS!

I had already copied the C:\ISTS file as David suggested & once I installed Pervasive, EVO opened like a charm - I guess it really does help IF you know what you are supposed to do.

Thanks, again.  kiss

VERY IMPORTANT!!!!  Don't install Pervasive from the Pervasive folder in the DBAMFG folder (as Cathyh describes) unless you are CERTAIN that that folder is the same version of Pervasive as your server.  That folder is not necessarily the same version as the server engine.

Mixed Pervasive versions cause all sorts of random lockups and errors as described in other threads on the forum.  I keep harping on this because it can be a support nightmare.  MAKE SURE ALL WORKSTATIONS AND THE SERVER ARE ON THE SAME PERVASIVE VERSION!!!!!!

Why wouldn't it be?  When you upgrade Pervasive on the server does this file not update automatically?
Is this just the old fashioned way to install and now there is a better way?

We have not changed the pervasive since before EVO but I have always installed new workstations this way and they are all on the same version.

I am thinking of upgrading though so I guess I better figure this out.

Because, no, pretty much. Wink

If you've ever upgraded Pervasive then the version you are using probably does not match the version in the DBA/Evo folder. You are really best off deleting that folder all together to remove the temptation to use it. Keep track of your current Pervasive version (if you have CD's that'd be preferable) and install the newest version on every machine every time, no exceptions.

Even if you have never upgraded Pervasive and your server is still PSQL 2000, you could have a mismatch.  The DBA 2004.1 update put the Pervasive 8 client in the DBAMFG\Pervasive folder so you could have PSQL 8 clients connecting to PSQL 2000 server.   That is the mismatch we have seen the most often and causes the most problems.

I installed V8 when I installed the 2004.1 version of DBA that I got from DBA Manufacturing. By accident or on purpose they sent me the version with V8 instead of 2000i which I was licensed for.  After installing V8 which I thought came with the new update, I was forced to either go through an uninstall of Pervasive on the server and workstations I had already done, or buy new licenses.  I chose to buy.  When I install from the DBA folder the version says V8.50.189 and that's the version I have on the server. I guess I have just been lucky.
It never occurred to me to change the procedure of how I install DBA on a new workstation.  Did I miss the instructions? Where can I find them?
It doesn't necessarily seem like a good idea to install from the CD because Pervasive offers updates (as opposed to upgrade) and if you install the update the CD is no longer the version you have on the server.  So there must be a way to install from the server?

It's a big mess... There's just no other way to say it... If pervasive had any idea as to what they were doing they'd make differing versions either work together properly or refuse to communicate at all. This "do I have the right version or don't I?" nonsense is just unacceptable.

To use UPS Worldship has an example (yet again...) it might not be a lot of fun that it autoupdates but at least it keeps all workstations in perfect version sync. For another example: with mySQL or postgresql you can basically use the same client library to connect to a vast range of server versions and you won't have trouble.

PervasiveSQL is the only program I've ever heard of where one has to be so careful to manually check the version of every workstation.

I want to thank you one and all for your help resolving my installation problem.  All users are now updated to the version of PervasiveSQL that is on the server.

When I tried to mix the versions of Pervasive neither DBA or Pervasive worked.  I ended up having to uninstall Pervasive and DBA reinstalled.

The problem I had with installing EVO on the new computer was caused by a security file that access was not granted to me even though I have administrator rights.  The way I found this out was Collin asked me to try and sign in as someone else and when I did this I was able to install on the new computer.

We are all up and working well now.  AGAIN THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR ASSISTANCE SOLVING MY PROBLEM.
