SR & RM module questions
03/20/08 at 08:26:04

Please help--we have a few questions concerning the new RMA module Huh
1. The instructions advise to set up a non-inventory part & give it routings for the work orders relating to the SR orders. We currently do not use routing for any other part. Can you explain how this works.
2. When the RMA is entered, it only allows you to enter the original part. How does this connect with the non-inventory part?
3. It was also suggested to use locations because otherwise inventory would be affected from having to enter the original ordered part. How do we connect these locations to the SR order/work order.
4. Our company provides annual services to the original purchases. There have been occasions where the part is returned after having been serviced. I assume that the system will require us to enter the service part number. Will this cause any work order problems or invoicing issues.
5. What happens if there is an ongoing warranty issue where we don't necessary have a referencing invoice or have more than one referencing invoice.
6. The final posting for the SR orders goes to WIP variance; is there any way we can set this up to go to a service or warranty COGS instead?
Thank you,
Holly

Hello,
I have noticed the following error log when trying to save an RMA:
"This program cannot be run from this menu. To run this program you need to run it from Evo-ERP"
I am able to save the RMA fine & it doesn't seem to cause any problems, but want to make sure just the same. Has anyone else come across this?  undecided
Thanks,
Holly

I also am TRYING to use the RMA/S-R modules.  Thank goodness I am in a test environment.
From looking at the RMA menu, you would think that the natural progression would be to enter, receive and dispose of and order.  I can enter (though it won' t let me enter a Reason code- says none of my codes are valid even though I am picking from the lookup), I can receive, but that closes the RMA and I can't then enter the disposition, so I am assuming that what I should do after entering is RM-D if I am going to do something with it.  What is RM-C for then??
After using RM-D to choose "repair" as the disposition I went to the S/R module.  There were no S/R orders listed, but when I tried to enter one for the RMA(used the same number) it said that number already existed as a S/R.  If only I could find it!
Is anyone really using the RMA module and if so how is it going?  Maybe I should start with the S/R module and continue to use the access database that we currently use for RMA's.  I was hoping to integrate these processes into Evo, but so far I am not impressed.
Maybe there is some secret setting that I have not entered in my defaults?

done ranting......  Smiley

I found the secret setting in defaults!!
After all that ranting I did go back to the IS Tech defaults and changed the setting from "Require" reason codes to ""A" for accept new codes entered on the fly.  I tried again and this time it worked.  I entered the same code that I had been entering before that is already in my list.  It asked if I wanted to add it.  All went well after that - I received it disposed of it and it created a S/R order that I can see.
When I looked in the RMA return codes list there was a new entry whose code was blank and the description said "added in RM-A".  Something definitely broken there.

I was re-reading this post and realized I hijacked Holly's original post which had nothing to do with my rant!  Sorry Holly-- embarrassed

1 &2) I noticed when I entered an RMA (finally got it to work) with the original part and then entered the disposition "Repair", a S/R  order was created that converted to a work order with the routing of the generic part that I put in the defaults and not the original part.  We use pretty extensive routings and this is a very good thing.  I don't think routings are mandatory though and I wonder if there is not a way to receive the generic part in RMA- seems like you should be able to since you could be accepting items you did not make and have no part number for service or repair.  I know we do this occasionally.  We also have patterning tubes coming in that we keep track of by assigning an RMA number.

3) The location is set up in IS Tech Defaults SD-Q, Sales I tab, and this is important (even might be mandatory) because you do not want items coming back for repair to show up in your other inventory as a part available for sale or use.  We only have one "blank location" so this is the scary part for me--

4 & 5) I haven't enough experience with these modules to answer these.  Hopefully there is someone who has.

6) I hope this is possible since we post warranty work to a different GL account, but don't know for sure.

I am very much a newbie at this but have been thinking about implementing it for some time-  We have in place a access database for RMA and do all of our repair and warranty work using generic parts-  I am excited about finally being able to clean up this process.

I just ran a few test RMA's to S/R post and here are some things I found:

1) The RTM's the program calls are either not there (ENRMA1.rtm for RMA) or don't work (ENSRF3.RTM for invoice.
2) I could pick ENSRB1.RTM for RMA and ENSRF4.RTM for invoice and they worked but I don't have the ability to change the default RTM- it would be nice if that were added.
3) Even when I used my generic warranty part number "WARRANTY REPAIR" it did not post to the GL accounts specified in that part number's class code.  In order to use this for warranty I need to be able to keep the uncharged costs out of my COGS. I did not get any posts to WIP variance as Holly mentioned, but issues and labor for the work order went to my regular WIP account and then COGS when the S/R invoice was posted.

As for 2, if your SD-Q Admin tab has Configuration Changes set to 1 or 2, then you should be able to save the change of RTM in RMA. If that is not working then it is a bug.

For 3, be sure that you have set up that class in the repair location. Each location has its own GLs for each class.

I do have SD-Q set to 2.
I haven't a clue as to how to set up different class codes for a location-
Anyway doesn't this depend on the item's class code, and isn't an item's class code the same regardless of the location?

The class code is the same for all locations, but the GLs for the classes are set individually for each location.

Thanks, Colin I get it now!
I set up class GL's for Repair location and I can see now how to direct finished goods that are being repaired to other GL's.  I guess this means though that I need a third location for Warranty work so that I can collect costs for those in the warranty GL's.

Lynn or Allen- any chance you could fix the copy location button that says "Under construction" in the SM-C item class Gl's?

I was reading your entries and they have helped me a bunch but I am still having a problem getting the repaired FG into my new repair location?  I received the parts in through RMA and it wont even let me click on the location area, it just puts them to where they originally came from.  Any thoughts?
