Users screen message button
04/28/08 at 04:48:28

The message function in the users screen is pretty handy to send messages around the shop. Could that be made a part of a menu that all users could use? Right now it seems to be available only to the admin logon.

We are able to send messages here without being admin.  Do you have the message button in the lower left corner of the users screen?
It is very handy when you need to run at program that needs everyone out.

Sorry it took so long to answer. The answer is no. The only button is "sort" if not logged on as an admin.

I have a user that is not an administrator and her user screen has both sort and message buttons.  She is the one that always uses it to let  people know they need to log off when she is running SM-J.

I wonder why we don't? I'm on the same version that Cathy is on. Weird. Are there different main menu's?

When I am logged in as myself I have both buttons.

As a side note, after each update I delete my Evo user and copy the new admin when I recreate myself. That gives me all of the new and updated menu items.

This is very curious because I just checked a few other users and they all have the message button.  I am the only one with admin status, at least I hope that's true.  I am alittle worried now that it's not!

It could be a version issue but since I don't know the name of the program I can't tell you what version I am running.  Does anyone know the name of the program?

Ummm.. if I login as my admin account, I have both buttons.  But, if I login as my test user (a non-admin account) I only see the sort button........you'd better double-check your user access just to be sure, Cathy.

The only place I know to do this is in PS-A.  I am the only one with security level "1" and security code "A".  Everyone else has blanks in both fields, which I assume is the same as 999. No one but me is allowed to use maintain database.
I have not given any particular permission to use the users screen in maintain menu access since I don't even know which program it is.

It would be nice if IS Tech would weigh in on this-- I would hate to be missing a setting that protects the data, and I am sure you would like others besides administrator to be able to send messages when they need another user to log off program(s).

Ok the code works as follows.. (for now)

ADMIN has access to the Message Button

Users with Security level 1 - 10 have the Message button.

I suggest that I can bump the security settings to 1 - 500 and you the users can give people security level 500 to the ones you want to have the ability to send messages.

My security level for all users but me is blank.  But everyone I have looked at can send a message.  What have I set to make this so???

blank is 0 at that point in the code (it should be 999).. and the code reads sec.level <=10  so 0 works for you. I will be fixing that shortly.  Wink

That's a relief, thanks Allen!

I do like it that my Materials manager who runs SM-J-C every month has the ability to message everyone when she is ready to start and there are active users.  None of my other users need this.  I hope there will be a way (after you shut me down!  Wink ) to give just her this ability without any other administrative abilities.
