PO costs tied to WO
05/30/08 at 14:24:28

We used to be able to specify a work order number on a type P purchase order and have the costs post directly to the WIP account. Now the costs post to the inventory/expense account of the part instead of WIP. The job costs of the work order do reflect the cost of the material so when finished production is entered more value is taken out of the WIP account than was put in. Has anyone else run into this issue? The problem seemed to have occured on POs created after patches were run at the end of the year.  We are using EVO Build 11/8/07
Thanks

We only do this rarely but I have never seen this problem.
The problem I have with it is that is does not show up as an issue to a work order, but instead is labeled a purchase to WIP.  This has confused people looking for the part on the JC materials issued list, or in the month end Inventory Transaction summary.

We are having the same problem right now.  Basically just the same as TooColdHere said, we have the WO # assigned to the PO, we receive the parts directly into the WO, which shows those parts and cost but on the GL side the cost of the parts went right into our raw material inventory account.  The parts are type N, not sure if that makes any difference..........I dont see why it should.  Please help as this is totally throwing off our GL inventory accounts every month.

The SKU type does make a diference. I just test it.
If it is a type "R" it goes into WIP, if it is a type "N" it is expensed.

I took your advice on that N type items can not be properly received into a work order with their cost going to the right account.  I changed the type to R and received it in.  It did the same thing, part number and cost was added to the WO but on the GL side the cost was added to our raw material inventory account and not the WIP account.

Check the GL accounts in the class code for the item.  That is what determines how it is dealt with in the GL, not the part type.

The GL class codes of the item are, for inventory/expense the raw material inventory account and for WIP it is the WIP account.  So one would assume when receiving directly into a WO that it would know to use the WIP account not the inventory/expense account.

Class of the WO is also correct, all the classes I use have our WIP GL account # in the WI accounting listing under Item Classes.  I mean the directions say if a work order is specified on the line item, the units and costs bypass on-hand inventory and go directly to work-in-process.  Its just every time the account that is increased is the account I have listed under inventory/expenses in the item class.

You do not say what version you are running, but I am on the latest which I loaded last month  and just tried this in my test company.  I got the same result-  item went into Inventory not WIP.  We do not use this very often, in fact the last time I could find was Oct- Dec of 2007.  I am 99.9% sure it was going into WIP at that time.  I am running a trial balance but it is taking its usual time.

But it seems  something has been broken.

Confirmed that it used to work, doing an issue to the work order and a PO receipt to the WIP account.  Now it issues it to the work order and puts it into inventory at the same time.

I think this is one for the bug trackers.

Cathyh- I totally agree with you that it seems to be a new bug, we do this all the time and I swore before we just upgraded to EVO on 9/13/08 that this was working fine.

Thanks for your help, now I know it is not just me being stupid or something Wink
