lot control for manufactured items
03/09/09 at 09:35:04

We use lot control for purchased items.  I thought I read something about using lot control for items made in-house and assigning the lot number using the work order number.  Can anyone using this tell me exactly how this works?

This is what we do: lot/batch number is the WO # including ext, e.g. 12345-67. That lot number goes onto the label, as well. When a customer reports a problem and gives us the lot # we know instantly what WO it was made on. If that WO was made with SO-N then we know which SO, also. Saves look up time and gives us a clue if the item was made for stock or just for that customer. Plus, the worker entering WO-I can just look up at the WO number to find what lot number they should be entering. Work even if they are using Quick Work Order add-on module.
