WO item second description
09/29/09 at 14:48:32

We would really like to  be able to edit the item's second description line in WO-A.  We do quite a bit of custom work and it would be nice to be able to add that info on the second line instead of the first so that we can keep the basic item description.

Is this a possibility?

Why not just add it to notes and print the notes on the traveler?

The second description line prints on the header of the traveler already and this is where I would like to see it on this document, not down in the notes.

If Lynn decides to create this capability, we need to have it set up so that the admin can turn this access on and off.  We don't want everyone to be able to access 2nd description.

That would certainly be okay with me.

WOC is printing the second line description from Inventory. If you change it, you will be changing it in Inventory that will effect all WO/SO/PO everything.  I don't think this is what you really want is it?

No, actually it is not.  Would there be a way to print a particular single line note in the header (I suppose we would have to enable Evo notes, which we still have not done!) without printing all the notes there? That sounds impossible.....

Quote from NovaZyg on 09/30/09 at 13:12:59:

Yes, it is. But why?

There are already:
WO BOMs
WO Routings
WO Item First Line Descriptions.

Why not:
WO Item Second Line Descriptions?

I use the first line of Notes, and have placed the first line of Notes in the header section of the Traveler. It would be so much nicer if the Second Description from the Sales Order was pulled into the Second Description of the WO, which of course would also have to be accessible in WO-A.

I wouldn't have a problem if someone wanted to restrict access to it (I would just turn it off), but why would it be any different than access to the Main Description? And why is it any more important/different than being able to access/modify the second line description in a SO or PO?

I agree with David, why couldn't you put the second line of the description in the WO-A header so that it can be modified (as the first one can) in WO-A and print on the traveler from the work order instead of from inventory?  Access to changing it could be restricted as is access to changing the first line.

Our company would like to be able to have the 2nd line description print for all of the BOM items on a WO.  Many of our descriptions cannot be entered on just the 1st description line and extend into the 2nd line.

Our shop floor has requested this ability for some time.

You can add this to the Traveler RTM yourself.  The field is in the BKICMSTR file - BKIC.PROD.NOTE

Ok, now I'm a bit confused. NovaZyg says that the second line desc is printing on the traveler from Inventory. I agreed, because it is on my traveler. However, now I THINK that it is because I added BKIC.PROD.NOTE.

In any event, I would MUUUCH rather have a per-WO user editable field like the first line (that would pull from the SO if created from a SO, or from Inventory if created in WO-A) for the second line desc. It would make sense for it to be tied to the same restriction as the first line as far as editing.

I think Lynn was referring to Charlene's request for the second description line in the WO BOM, not the work order header for the item being produced.
