Anyone using any of the alternatives to Microsoft office.

I'm testing Kingsoft office. but now i'm not sure I can get it to use the existing links.

maybe if I make a copy of the executable and rename it winword.exe ?

We selectively use LibreOffice at some workstations. We are 98% Microsoft Office though.

Evo does not "call" Microsoft Word or any other program.
What it does it to call the associate program that runs the file extension. In this case DOC.

1.Open the folder that contains the file you want to change.

2.Right-click the file you want to change and then, depending on the type of file, either click Open with or point to Open with and then click Choose default program.

3.Click the program you want to use to open the file.

4.Do one of the following:

•If you want all files of that type to open in the same software program, select the Always use the selected program to open this kind of file check box, and then click OK.

•If you want only that file to open in the software program this one time, clear the Always use the selected program to open this kind of file check box, and then click OK.

I have all my word links set to open using winword in DBA  using the "other" setting. I guess that will have to change.

T7GENIMP should be able to handle it. Might take a little bit of research to figure out which table(s) and field(s) but I'd be pretty sure it's doable.

For 6+ years now we have been using LibreOffice (formerly OpenOffoce) and it has worked fine in Evo with opening and printing linked documents with the file extensions .DOC and .XLS.  LibreOffice will even open and edit all the latest Microshaft Office documents, thus eliminating the need for any viewers, etc. Save us a bundle of money, important for a small company.  Configure the app to save in the old Microshaft formats and you are all set in that regard.
