Finally got evo-erp test email to work.
We run a fairly simple network. Evo-erp is running in a 3 station peer-to-peer environment. My test was run on a computer that is plugged into the internet through a D-Link DIR-655 router to Charter Cable's internet hardware. We are also running Norton internet security. Thankfully, I didn't have to change any parameters to the hardware or software.
Finding the right combination of smtp addresses and ports took a little time. I was using aol and yahoo email addresses and there were a couple of different smtp address and port assignment suggestions.
I ended up using smtp.aim.com and port 587. Tried using smtp.mial.yahoo.com and our yahoo account. It worked but was more sensitive as I had to force 'STARTTLS' during testing. On the EVO-ERP email testing screen I set the user name and all email address fields to the same email address. I know I sent the email back to myself but it eliminated the confusion of which field was 'From:' and which was 'To:'
Things I tried. Using 'Telnet' did not help much except to learn that I could establish a connention. I downloaded 'SMTPConsole.exe' (it's free) and was able to do some handshaking which included password verification but I could not send an email. The SMTP servers would not accept an email from an IP address. Lastly, I downloaded a free copy of Febooti's AutmaticWorkshop. I followed their setup instructions and started experimenting with an email task. The log reporting was a great help. Still, it took me a few hours to come up with the two solutions that worked.
Thanks for your comments and interest. Tim
