Linking Documents to Print
01/27/15 at 15:32:33

We are in the process of scanning all our items prints to attach to the item in IN-A.  We want to be able to have these linked documents  "prints" to print out when the work order is printed.   We have tested the link and it does show up under the Inventory Inquiry - however, we cannot figure out how to get these links to print when the work order is selected to print.

Anyone else using this feature or can you direct us to the instructions if there are other setups required in EVO.

When you set up the link set the print options for  traveler image type L and P for parent
don't use C or it will print all kinds of stuff you don't want.

And if I have a thumbnail  link I use T and B

Thumbnails are bitmaps I use PNG  I find that 300 x 300 is the largest that will reliably print on long boms.

WMF vector files work well too for some things. I use a few, not too many.

what kind of file are you scanning it to ?
it should print the file with the windows associated application for the file extension
so a pdf will print with whatever opens pdf's ect

in some cases you may have to set up a file association to get it to print with the right program

I put just about everything in a word doc and print those so I don't have to deal with too many file types and it also can print header info with page numbers and part number / file name on each page of my document package.

if the guys need a large print they can blow up the word file on the plotter and they print clean for even complex drawings

I also have a thumb for most of my items that comes out on everything I can get it on.

just looked.
11,000 word docs and 9000 thumbs

Most of my files were generated from cad and cam programs with a script using wintask to get it all in word. Once I got over the initial major hurdle I either make the .doc's one at a time or if I have a lot I use a script.

Initially I generated the bulk links using word and did an import for the main chunk.

I use F and O to generate my sales orders for my machines.
It's amazing to generate 50 or 100 work orders and have everything print at once.
Ive done jobs where I burned thru two reams of paper in under an hour.

longest part of entering an order and getting it to the shop is now matching up the traveler prints and pick slips and stapling them together.

We are using PDF files.  I set the traveler to L and P as shown in the screen shot.  When I went to go print an open WO for that part #, it said “print linked document: Y” but nothing ever printed…Is there another setting I’m missing?

have screen shots but unable to attach to this link.

Make sure your printer is set to automatically select paper size.  Also, you cannot preview.  It has to go straight to the printer.

I believe our printer is setup correctly because everything we print from EVO or our desktops go directly to the auto size tray.  Do you know if there are "printer" settings in SM of EVO that might need changed?

Some of the pdf files will have 11x17 and 8-1/2 x 11 pages.  We'll have to test those parts once we get it to work.

We will mess around more with it, but we feel we have the link right and just can't seem to get the link to print with the work orders.

how did you set the file associations ?

I don't have many pdf's  but I looked at a few and they are set to I

you may have to use O and associate the app you want to print the pdf with.

also may have to add the path to the application to your search path in windows environment settings

I changed the Image File Association to "0" and the document (.pdf) did print (YEAH)...however, the file print is a 11 x 17 page but the document printed as small letter size paper.  I went into the document, changed the properties to the correct page size of 11 x 17 and reprinted work order with link but it still printed on letter size.

If you know somewhere we can research further that would be great - otherwise we'll keep playing with different settings to see if we can get it to print to printer on correct paper size.

We're getting somewhere... Smiley

your information has been very helpful.
