New account number with dept code
02/16/16 at 14:48:13

I created a new account with a department code, when I printed out the balance sheet the account with the new account does not show up.  My original account is 22052 and I created a clearing account 22052-100.  What exactly does this dept. code do?

Department code creates a sub-account for the code.  If you want to show the dept. code separately in your balance sheet you need to check the "Print Department Detail?" box after you select the periods you want to show.  If this is left unchecked, the values in the dept. code (or sub-account) get added, so the value showing for your GL code 22052 and 22052-100 will be accumulated.

It's handy if you have different departments (obviously), or lines of business where you might want to separate out an income statement, for example.

Also, if you add a new account, make sure the AM-E from/through ranges of accounts defining the financial statements include that account.
